AI for banking
A finance application arrives incomplete. It sleeps for ten days before anyone notices a tax return is missing. The customer, meanwhile, thinks it is moving. The task that costs the most here is not the decision — it is everything that waits before it.
The tasks we remove first in this industry
What this industry pays when nothing moves.
Ranges, not promises. They come from tasks we meet in this industry and orders of magnitude we measure in the survey — yours may fall outside, in either direction.
What we remove, and what we leave.
Each task is described with what the agent takes on and what stays with a person. If the second column is empty, we have not understood the industry.
Check a file is complete
What the agent does
It reads the documents received, sets them against the list expected for this type of application, and produces the status : present, missing, illegible, expired.
What stays with a person
The qualification. ‘Illegible’ or ‘expired’ are observations; what to do about them is the adviser’s decision.
Chase missing documents
What the agent does
As soon as a document is missing, it drafts the request to the customer, naming exactly what is expected and why, then chases again at the due date if nothing arrives.
What stays with a person
The tone and frequency, set at the start. And any exchange that goes beyond ‘this document is missing’ goes up to the adviser.
Answer ‘where is my application’
What the agent does
It gives the stage, the date of the last event and what is expected from whom. In writing, with references.
What stays with a person
Any question containing ‘will it go through’. The agent describes the status, never the outcome.
Prepare a file summary
What the agent does
Income, outgoings, history, documents : it assembles a sourced summary sheet, every figure pointing to the document it comes from.
What stays with a person
The analysis and the decision. The summary saves the hour of reading; it does not replace judgement.
Track regulatory changes
What the agent does
It reads the publications you point it to and flags what affects your procedures, with the exact extract.
What stays with a person
The interpretation and the update of procedures. It alerts; the compliance officer decides.
No decision, no decline, no advice is produced by an agent.
It is the strictest limit of all the industries we serve, and it is also a regulatory obligation. An agent observes, chases, assembles and cites. It never says whether an application will go through, never proposes a product, never declines anything. The diagram below shows where its perimeter stops.
Any request containing a question about the outcome, a rate, a condition or advice goes right, to an authorised person.
Ten systems, one survey, one system opened at a time — the one with the shortest payback. Read the full method, or go back to the AI agency page.
What we open it with, and why here.
The choice of tool comes last, and it is reversible. But in this industry, three constraints keep coming back and steer the choice before we even start.
The documents in a file are sensitive personal data. Before any agent, we set where they live, who has access, how long they stay. It is written into the quote and it is verifiable.
Every chase, every answer, every status produced is logged with its source. In this industry, what the machine did must be readable by an auditor — the log is part of the design from day one.
The model is set to describe and cite, never to recommend. When a request leaves the frame, it does not answer ‘probably’ : it hands over.
What we hear in this industry, before we start.
Can customers’ documents pass through an AI model ?
Only inside a perimeter you control, with hosting chosen for it, and never to train anything. That is the first decision of the workshop, before we even talk about use. If the answer does not suit you, we stop there.
Could a customer believe the agent gave them an approval ?
No, because it never talks about the outcome. It says ‘this document is missing’ or ‘your file has been at stage X since this date’. Any question about acceptance goes to the adviser — it is a rule of the circuit, not an instruction.
Will our compliance team accept this ?
They define the perimeter in the workshop, and the execution log is available to them. An agent that decides nothing, cites every document and leaves a trace is easier to audit than an adviser in a hurry.
We are a small brokerage. Is it worth it ?
That is where the gap is widest. A broker spends most of the day chasing documents. A single task — completeness and chasing — is enough to change their week, without touching anything else.
The areas where we are called most for this.
The same tasks, in neighbouring industries : AI for insurance, AI for real estate, AI for legal teams.
What we have written on this subject.
We will tell you which system to open first.
Describe the task that costs you the most. We will tell you what is feasible, how long it takes and what it costs. If the answer is no, you will leave with the two reasons why.
